Abstract:

In the context of valorization, this presentation was about the possibilities of re-enacting the academic illustrated lecture at Dutch universities between 1880 and 1940. In order to reconstruct this specific teaching practices by means of the optical lantern, the re-enactment can prove to be fruitful in actually showing and demonstrating the specific value of the illustrated lecture for educational purposes. Even though the archival material is scattered and sometimes even scarce, it could serve as an invitation to cultural heritage institutes and museums to study their own collections and include them into prominent parts of their exhibitions or archives.
